The musical superstar debuted her brand new single at the Superbowl with an incredible performance for an even more incredible and important song, but some people were confused. In Foundation, Beyonce sings about her heritage as an African American woman and that’s seemed to upset some right wing white people, who apparently were quite confused that she was in actual fact black. So obviously, the hilarious people at Saturday Night Live have parodied the frankly mad reaction with this loltastic sketch. NBC “For white people it was just another great week, they never saw it coming,” an ominous voice over reveals as a storm envelops the white world. NBC And it isn’t just Beyonce, Scandal actress Kerry Washington is also sensationally revealed as black in the hilarious video that perfectly parodies the ridiculousness of anyone being shocked by Queen Bey’s artistry. The superstar and her back-up dancers paid homage to the Black Panthers in order to bring attention to the Black Lives Matter movement during the halftime show on Sunday. NBC Not everyone was on board with Beyonce making such a political statement, especially as it came just days after she dropped the controversial video for the song.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks at a rally in Las Vegas. It’s a hosting choice that has raised questions over whether TV stations will be required to give equal time to other candidates — and raised eyebrows, because of Trump’s controversial statements about Mexican immigrants. On one level, Saturday Night Live is a good example of how TV shows can address concerns about racial diversity.

Last year, after a growing chorus of complaints about the lack of black women on the show, the program hired three African-American women and wound up making two of them — Sasheer Zamata and Leslie Jones — on-camera performers. Then it promoted Michael Che, a young black comic who also briefly worked on the Daily Show, as co-anchor of its Weekend Update segment. In some ways, SNL has never been more ethnically diverse than it is right now, with five black people regularly appearing on camera.

Posted by Sean L. By the end, he had the Rev. Al Sharpton — who having lost so much weight, all he has to show for it is an MSNBC gig, but wait, he lost sooooo much weight that he looks disproportional somehow, or is it just his new wardrobe that makes him look out of place — step in front of the scene and address us: This weirdly meta opening, so weirdly meta as it was, set the tone for what would be one of the more bold, ballsy and to borrow a classic catchphrase wild and crazy night for SNL.

And it was much better for it. Even if all we got to enjoy of all of those Matthew McConaugheys was what you just saw there. It was much better for it. Well, Kenan Thompson did have blood on his shirt, if not on his hands, for what he had said publicly. The rest of the monologue essentially has cast members acting as if Washington really is her Scandal character, Olivia Pope, and able to get them out of their jams. From that supposition to this premise, we find Pedrad playing Heshy Farahat from Yemen.

A talk show hosted by Kenan Thompson, ostensibly to ask his guests played by Pharoah and Washington how President Barack Obama really is doing, but turns into a cautionary tale about how differently white people think about black people. Because you definitely noticed the new Miss Universe contestants. Kate McKinnon, obviously, owns her part. Not that you noticed.

I take back anything nice I ever said about Sydney Leathers

She was born to Valerie and Earl Washington. Her mother is a professor and educational consultant while her father is a real estate broker. She is from an English, Scottish, American, and African descent. She went on to receive her education from Spence School based in Manhattan.

Print “Love, Gilda” looks back on the career and life of Gilda Radner. The film highlights her life, her rise to fame on Saturday Night Live and how her immense popularity impacted her life during and after her time on the late-night show. The pictures shown throughout were so carefully chosen and placed that they were able to tell the story all on their own.

The film does go into depth about her personal relationships and later battle with cancer, but it never digs too deep or crosses the line. Throughout her life, Radner dealt with her pain by making people laugh. Through personal narration, photos and home videos, the movie generates a friendly and inviting story. Audience members feel as though they are close friends of Radner, conversing and engaging with her. Of course, when watching the clips of her classic sketches from SNL, such as Roseanne Roseannadanna and Baba Wawa, the audience slips back into the role of a distant fan.

But still, the film maintains its intimate atmosphere and never loses that welcoming feel. You never feel like an intruder in the story, as if you are overhearing and seeing personal, delicate information.

Almost immediately, Twitter weighed in, and other voices of critique emerged from the comedy community. Sharpton, whose image had been synonymous with outrage and activism in the face of racial discrimination still is , is now an accepted member of the progressive media camp. Even having Sharpton appear at the end of the cold open felt tokenizing and dated.

Even Weekend Update was a struggle to watch; rattled by forced laughter at a series of meh jokes, newbie co-anchor Cecily Strong broke the fourth wall. The marketplace is so wide now that I expect nuance and subversion, and layered complexity in my humor.

SNL tapped Tiffany Haddish to host its show and it was freakin’ amazing. Tiffany was the first black woman comedian and her monologue was on point.

Email With Kerry Washington as guest host, “Saturday Night Live” wasted no time poking fun at itself after receiving criticism for having no black women among its 16 regular cast members. In the opening skit, the “Scandal” actress portrayed first lady Michelle Obama, talking with her husband about an upcoming state dinner at the White House.

She wondered whether cast member Kenan Thompson couldn’t play Winfrey; both Thompson and Pharoah have said recently they will no longer impersonate women on the NBC late-night comedy institution. Washington left the stage and returned as Winfrey. She was then asked to portray Beyonce — before show producer Steve Higgins interrupted with a voiceover. Higgins said producers would like to apologize to Washington for the number of black women she would be asked to play in the show.

Al Sharpton appeared on the stage. She also joked about “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn, saying that she was “proud to be on a show that has the courage to cast a white man as president” in Washington’s hosting gig comes just days after pregnancy reports surfaced.

I would like to first thank [‘Scandal’ creator] Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Later, after securing a spot on the writing staff and eventually becoming the oldest comedian to ever join the show as a cast member , she approached Thompson. But another thing Jones is particularly adept at is turning what could be dark moments into light ones. That dovetail of qualities — competition and compassion — has raised her profile in recent weeks.

Comedian and actress Leslie Jones has been stoking Olympics spirit on Twitter since the games kicked off, and her humorous tweets landed her an invite from NBC to cover the event. Recently, though, she almost left the social platform entirely following a barrage of angry, racist and sexist tweets aimed at her. I feel like I’m in a personal hell.

I didn’t do anything to deserve this. It’s just too much. It shouldn’t be like this. So hurt right now.
